Acquired from a retiring GP on the south Devon coast this is one of a collection of newly restored medical cabinets we have in stock. It is larger than many we have sold in the past and is thought to have been in-situ for as long as anyone at the medical practice could remember probably dating back to the 1940's/50's.
Constructed from steel which has been stripped, polished and sealed its lines are clean and unfussy. Unusually it features glazing to all four sides and the top which makes it ideal for a retail environment so small items can be clearly viewed from all angles.
Made by the renowned Down Bros. Ltd of London S.E.1, who were ideally placed for business directly opposite St. Thomas's Hospital. They manufactured surgical instruments, appliances and a range of aseptic furniture for hospitals, medical practices and dental surgeries from the late 1800's.
The quality of this cabinet is apparent in its weight and detailing featuring brass hinges, makers plaque and a chromed locking handle (sadly no key). The glass has a feint green tint, the three thick glass shelves have ground and polished edges.
